Yesterday night while I was scrolling through the channels on my latest Sony Bravia TV, something strange occurred. The TV system suddenly froze and it was not responding to any commands or controls. Tried changing the volume or the remote buttons but nothing seemed to work. It just did not budge. After carrying out some research online, I tried various types of resets but still no result. The last I could do was unplug the cord from the HDMI device and restart it. But still no use.
This led to a lot of stress since at this moment I had not planned of switching my TV. There were no issues with the sound and audio, it was all working perfectly fine. The problem seemed to be that the controls were just not responding.
The next day I spoke to the Customer service representative mentioning them with the details of my problems. The technician just asked a simple question to me, “Is the TV stuck on Channel number 6.2?” I was taken by surprise as to how come he got to know the exact channel number without me mentioning about the same.
That is when he told me that, he has already received similar calls for the same channel. In such cases all that was required, is just to unplug the antenna cord and turn on the TV. That was fix the issue.
It really worked and I got back the control of my TV again. The representative also mentioned that I would need to get that channel deleted else would face the same problem again. That seemed to be quite a small price for ensuring that my TV works absolutely well.
But it made me wonder as to how come this issue suddenly cropped up for a particular channel. After carrying out some research, I finally figured out a potential reason for this problem. There seemed to be a presence of some firmware bug in the TV. This bug is normally triggered by the incoming digital signals from that particular channel. This is something that should be fixed by the channel at their end.
But for now, it is important to me to get rid of channel 6.2 to avoid the same issue again. For removing this channel,
- Firstly, click on the Home button present on your remote control.
- Next click on the left arrow key and got the option Settings.
- Once you select “Settings”, it would show up a menu of other options.
- Select “Show/Hide Channels”.
- Once you select that option, click on the channel 6.2 and select “Shown” so that you can get it changed to “Hidden”.
Note that all of this process should be done while the antenna is unplugged else the TV would get stuck again. Once you carry out the above steps, the said channel would not show up but the rest of the channels would work without any issues.
This is quite an easy step when followed properly. Do not panic when you TV gets stuck or if this method does not work. Try calling up the representative of the company and surely they would further guide you on how to get it resolved.
